The beautiful stretch of golden sands and swinging palm trees at Payyoli Beach, in Kozhikode can definitely take your breath away with its astounding surroundings and pleasant atmosphere. Located on the North Malabar Coast of Kozhikode district in the South Indian state of Kerala, this exquisite beach spot has shallow waters, that border Velliyamkallu. This beach is significant in many ways and it attracts a large number of tourists every year. During November and December, hordes of the endangered Olive Ridley turtles come at this place to lay eggs. A lot of tourists visit this place to catch a glimpse of these beautiful turtles and to check a nature conservation centre, 'Theeram', started by the fishermen to save these turtles.
The Payyoli Beach looks extremely beautiful with its groves of swaying coconut palms and long strectches of silver sands, bordered by beach shacks that offer decious snacks and sea food to the tourists. Thikkodi light house is a prime attraction here, built following a shipwreck and if you go about a kilometer and a half north of Payyoli, you will find a beautiful sand bank at the estuary of River Mpprad. The place is worth visiting for bird watcher's.
Payyoli Beach is around 40 km from Kozhikode and is well-known as the place where India's former sprint queen, P.T. Usha resides. Usha, who is one of the greatest athletes of the country is nicknamed as the 'Payyoli Express'.
